Experience the ultimate day tour with One Day On Maria.   Enjoy your morning exploring Maria’s dramatic coastline and enthralling wildlife.  Explore seal colonies, sea caves, spring fed waterfalls, sweeping sandy beaches, towering mountain ranges and the world famous Fossil and Painted Cliffs.

TOUR 1.  ILE DES PHOQUES - The Ile Des Phoques has been our favourite place to cruise, swim, dive and explore ever since we began in 2007.   The Ile Des Phoques (French for Island of Seals) is an absolute haven for marine life and has been declared one of the best cold water dives in the world.  On the way to this remarkable granite island you can see albatross, dolphins, Australian fur seals and whales (depending on the time of year) as well as majestic panoramic views of Maria Island and the Freycinet Peninsula.  Upon arrival at the Ile Des Phoques, we stop the boat and you sit with the seals whilst you enjoy lunch.  This is a remarkable experience in itself.  To enjoy a gourmet Tasmanian lunch whilst seals play about the boat is a dream for most (including us).  Before lunch, you may even like to take the rare opportunity to SWIM or SNORKEL with the seals around the boat.  That's right!  We provide masks and snorkels for hire to those who would like to come face to face with one of the world's most majestic marine mammals.  If that wasn’t enough, the cruise then takes you exploring Ile Des Phoques’ hidden secrets - the largest granite sea caves in Tasmania (possibly the Southern Hemisphere) to claim that "once in a lifetime" photo.  Our cruises take the time for you to enjoy your surroundings.  We spend an hour at lunch with the seals and up to 15 minutes in each sea cave.  After a relaxing 1.5 hours at Ile Des Phoques, the cruise returns you to Darlington via the Painted Cliffs for the most sought after of all souvenir photos.  Cruise takes approximately 4 hours.

Tour 2.  CIRCUMNAVIGATION - You asked for it and now the ‘Circumnavigation’ has become the second cruise option for Maria Island.  After exploring the Fossil Cliffs and limestone sea caves of Fossil Bay, your cruise continues south down the East Coast of Maria Island to explore this remarkable hidden coastline (accessible only by boat).  Visit mountain fed waterfalls, secluded bays, sea caves and blow holes.  Your cruise will take you to Riedle Bay for lunch at the Eastern side of McRae’s Isthmus.  This stunning beach is identical to the world-famous Wineglass Bay and is visited by only a handful of people each year.  Whilst at anchor you may also swim and snorkel about the boat in this idyllic and pristine location.

The buffet lunch provided on each cruise includes Tasmanian smoked salmon, ham, chicken, freshly prepared salad, Tasmanian soft and hard cheeses, dips, crackers, wraps and rolls.  We will also provide a complimentary drink of Tasmanian sparkling wine or beer, as well as tea, coffee, juice and water.

In the afternoon,  both tours will dock at the World Heritage Darlington convict settlement.   The perfect way to compliment your cruise is to stretch your legs and wander Maria Island's Darlington settlement.  Here you will enjoy a guided tour through Darlington’s fascinating collection of preserved convict buildings, learn about the town’s remarkable history and come face to face with Maria Island’s resident wombats.  If history is not for you, then simply soak up the sun on Darlington’s white sandy beach or swim/snorkel in the waters of Maria Island’s marine reserve.

Each tour departs the Triabunna Marina at 9:30am and returns at 4:45pm.  As we operate both tours with a single boat, the first person to book will have the opportunity to choose the tour destination for that day.

When you ring to book your CRUISE & WALK day tour with us, please inform us which cruise you would like to participate in.  We currently operate only a single vessel for the cruises, so the first to book will lock in the cruise for that particular day.

The ability to cruise north to the Ile Des Phoques or Circumnavigate Maria Island is also dependent on good weather.  We will endeavour to inform you up to 1 week before your cruise departs with any concerns of weather or changes to your cruise.  Full refunds are provided for cancellations due to weather.  Whilst it is rare to cancel, it is never our intention to take you for over 3 hours on the boat if the weather is not good.
